And so it begins.

For a while, I’ve been pushed by a certain someone to start writing this (you know who you are). And I’ve had a lot of reservations about it because 1.) time constraints 2.) I didn’t want my personal life/thoughts to be posted on the www so [undeserving] strangers I didn’t know could have a peephole into my thoughts 3.) putting real thoughts in words, pen, and paper has always been a bit of challenge for me. But as I thought more about it, I’ve come to realize that this experience could be somewhat cathartic in its own right and what this blog brings out could actually be somewhat surprising. In any case, here it begins.

First off, you might first be puzzled by the name of this blog. For two reasons:

1.) This blog has nothing to do with the incredible band after which it was named.

2.) At first glance, the name doesn’t really say anything about what I’m writing or going to write in this blog/have

And here comes the explanation. Coming up with just a title for this blog was hard enough. You know how they say you can’t really name a paper/work of art until it’s finished and then look back to see what you’ve created in order to come up with a title? Well that’s where the problem came for me. I had no idea what I was going to do with this, where I was ever going to go with this blog, and you can’t finish a blog and then title it—that would require sailing to the future and then coming back to the present to propose a title (not only practically impossible, but requires too much effort). And then (perhaps serendipitously), the track “I fell in love without you” by this amazing band called Motion City Soundtrack came up on my ipod during my morning jog. What actually drew me in to their music was their name. Motion City Soundtrack. Motion. According to most dictionaries, you’ll find that it means “the action or process of moving or of changing place or position; movement.” Never has a word been so relevant to…practically everything. If you think about it, motion can be used to explain a lot of things that we might otherwise not really think it would. Yes, the word can be used to describe the laws of physics, the act of physically moving, the way in which electrons exist in continuous space in chemistry. But if you really think about it, you can use it to describe virtually everything in the world that exists: the movement from growing young to old, the movement of the seconds that pass in time, or the movement of the various topics which are going to be written in this blog. I don’t know where this blog is going to take you or what it’s going to be about, but I do know that it’s always going to change; be in constant motion as everything is. That much is true. City just seemed fitting as I just thought it was a huge part of me. And Soundtrack refers to this blog which will serve as a soundtrack to my thoughts.

The real point of today’s post wasn’t just to give you a long essay about why this blog is named so, but rather to introduce this idea. The idea that nothing in life ever stands still. Even if you think you’re standing still for a second, you’re not—because your life, the things in it, the people around you are constantly in motion. Everything is in motion. And that my friend, is what makes things so interesting and wonderful.

So here’s your homework for today, kids:

Go out and savor at least 3 moments—this can be any moment: a bite of ice cream, watching the sun set at the beach, or simply telling your friend about your day. Moments are constantly in motion. They’ll never be the same. So savor it, even if just for the second. Tomorrow night’s hw? Watch Groundhog day. The alternative to what I’m talking about. It’s slightly depressing.

There you have it, kids. As always, peace to the middle east.

Forewarning: As much as I’d love to sit here and write in this blog all day long, I find it quite unrealistic to keep up with it as long as I have other life commitments. Future postings may be rare. Or on the contrary, I might just yet surprise you.
